Saving Lives. Strengthening Our Community.

For more than 50 years, our volunteer-run nonprofit has been saving lives and filling critical gaps in animal welfare services. From our hands-on spay/neuter, rescue, and adoption programs to our support of local shelters and other animal welfare organizations, we’re building a kinder community for people and animals.

Three Programs. One Mission.

What We do

FMCA focuses on three core programs that work together to address animal welfare from rescue to prevention to emergency response.

Our largest program is a life-saving rescue and adoption operation. Through a network of volunteer foster homes, animals receive medical care, stability, and love while they heal and prepare for their forever homes.

We also address overpopulation at its source through a proactive trap-neuter-return program, funding hundreds of spay and neuter and vaccination packages each year for community and feral cats across Montgomery County and beyond. And when our local shelter faces emergencies or animals require complex medical care, Friends of Montgomery County Animals steps in, covering specialty surgeries, enrichment, and habitat enhancements such as expanded kennel space, secure hiding areas for cats, and raised bedding for dogs to ensure every animal gets what they need before finding a home.

How We Operate

At FMCA, trust and transparency guide everything we do. As an all-volunteer, foster-based organization, we are able to have a significant impact with exceptionally low overhead ensuring that donations go directly toward helping animals in need.

FMCA has earned the Gold Seal of Transparency with Candid, reflecting our commitment to accountability and responsible stewardship. We are also proud recipients of the Great Nonprofits Seal.

Volunteer Powered

FMCA is powered by compassionate volunteers who foster animals, support operations, assist with trapping efforts, and respond when animals need help most. We collaborate with local veterinarians, local shelters, and other rescue organizations to ensure animals receive the care they need especially during emergencies and large-scale cases.

AWARDS, AFFILIATIONS & PARTNERS:

Every Action Counts

There Is More Than One Way to Help

Every rescue, surgery, and safe placement is made possible by compassionate people in our community. Here are a few of the ways you can support FMCA's work.

  • A woman with curly hair and a hair bow smiling and holding a black and white puppy inside a house near a large decorative mirror.

    Adopt

As a foster-based rescue, our capacity is directly connected to the number of homes available. Each adoption creates space for another animal to receive care.

  • Close-up of a ginger and white kitten with green eyes, looking upward.

    Donate

Animal rescue comes with real and ongoing costs. As an all-volunteer organization with exceptionally low overhead, your donation goes directly toward the animals who need it most.

  • A man with glasses, dark hair, and a beard, wearing a red hoodie, is holding an orange tabby cat in his arms. They are seated indoors with a decorative wall behind them.

    Foster

Foster homes are the lifeblood of our rescue. By opening your home, you create the space we need to help more animals heal and find their way to forever homes.

  • Table set up with flyers and information about cats for the Friends of Montgomery County Animals (FMCA) in a pet store, with shelves of pet supplies and people in the background.

    VOLUNTEER

FMCA runs entirely on the dedication of community members who give their time. Whether you have a few hours or a more regular commitment, there is likely a role that fits your life.

Every Animal Has a Story

Behind every rescue, every surgery, and every TNR effort is a moment when someone chose to help.

These are a few of the animals that moment made possible.
